Atelier DEVA DE SAAT is a place where technical skills and artisanal talent merge with the creativity of a designer
ATELIER
“I am my own atelier, I am Deva de Saat.”
DEVA DE SAAT is a luxury leather goods brand created by designer and leather artisan Barbora Flora Tomanova.
The sophisticated elegance of the DEVA DE SAAT handbags and accessories is defined by the purity of shape and emphasized by the beauty of natural leather.
The silhouettes are stripped down of everything superfluous and by using thoughtful design details, the designer creates minimalist yet functional pieces that will stand the test of time.
The fruits of a creative fusion between design, functionality, and style are brought to life by the skillful hands of one single artisan – the designer herself. Great care is taken during all stages of the creative process from initial design to final production. All handbags and accessories are made to order in the DEVA DE SAAT atelier in the Czech Republic. The union of the highest quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship and timeless silhouettes creates handbags and accessories that will be passed down from generation to generation.
DEVA DE SAAT follows the philosophy of slow fashion as a conscious alternative to mass consumerism of fast fashion and champions the idea behind quality over quantity and style over trends.
Only the finest leathers, linings, threads and hardware have been carefully selected for the production of DEVA DE SAAT handbags and accessories. The designer uses both traditional and innovative materials made by leading companies in the field.
DEVA DE SAAT handbags and accessories are made with certified full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, the result of heritage craft and know-how of the master tanners from Tuscany – the medieval cradle of traditional Italian vegetable tanning.
This natural material stands out for its unique characteristics such as its unmistakable fragrance, unsurpassed resistance, durability and ability to acquire a beautiful patina over time. It is therefore a key element in the creation of products that, with proper care, will last for many years.
Vegetable tanning is the traditional ancient method of leather tanning, a slow organic process of turning raw hides into leather with the use of natural tannins. Tannins are obtained from tree bark, leaves and roots of some plants such as oak, chestnut or mimosa. Unlike chrome-tanned leather, vegetable-tanned leather doesn’t contain toxic substances harmful to humans and is also suitable for people with metal allergies.

BARBORA FLORA TOMANOVA
After graduating with a BA in Fashion Design at the faculty of Arts and Design of the IUAV University of Venice, she further specialized in leather goods by attending the second edition of the postgraduate international course Bag Design & Product Development organized by the IUAV University in collaboration with La Scuola dei Maestri Pellettieri (School for Master Leather Artisans) of the prestigious Italian fashion brand Bottega Veneta. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity opened the imaginary door to the world of luxury leather goods for the young designer who was subsequently granted the privilege to learn from the master artisans of the Montebello Vicentino atelier as their colleague. After eight years of study and experience in the field of fashion, she decided to return to the Czech Republic and create under her own brand.
DEVA DE SAAT is an ethical brand focused on bespoke creation of timeless leather handbags and accessories. A strong belief in the benefits of handcrafted lifetime pieces is deeply rooted in both the brand’s DNA and its name. Fewer, slower, better. Less is more, quality over quantity, style over trends.
Deva comes from Devana – the Slavic goddess of wild nature, forests and hunting. Her name originates from the word děva which means maiden in Czech. Outside of Slavic mythology, devas are divine beings, deities of Indian religions. The word saat means hour, clock (thing) or time itself in different languages and lastly, the nobiliary particle de connects these two words into a brand (new) name with a deeper meaning.
Deva de Saat. Goddess of Time.
