CERTIFIED FULL-GRAIN VEGETABLE-TANNED COWHIDE LEATHER

Pelle Conciata al Vegetale in Toscana (Vegetable-Tanned Leather in Tuscany) is the quality trademark that guarantees leather made by the book: unmatched quality and strict adherence to standards in the craftsmanship of ethically obtained raw cowhides. This natural leather is friendlier to the environment than chrome-tanned leather, it’s strong, durable, and has a fabulous aroma. It’s a timeless classic that ages beautifully because it is completely natural, with no synthetic top finishes (light shades of vegetable-tanned leather may present visible characteristics of natural material such as eventual scars that occurred during an animal’s life). The surface of vegetable-tanned leather will not remain pristine and sleek, and although scratching will occur, these marks should be viewed as its characteristic feature and not as material defects. The patina created by the daily wear and tear is meant to change and evolve, slowly revealing the charm, beauty, and identity of a handcrafted product.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Always try a new leather care product on a hidden area of your bag or accessory before you apply it to the whole surface (you may use the DEVA DE SAAT leather tag for this purpose). Always clean the surface of leather before applying any leather care product.

Everyday upkeep | Remove any dirt or mud on the surface of the product with a damp light-colored cloth. Leave to dry at room temperature. A dry microfiber cloth works great on removing oil and dirt with no water and a leather cleaning product needed.

Periodical upkeep | It is important to provide your leather product with suitable leather care and nourishment in order to maintain the quality and the look of the leather in the long run. A leather waterproofing product will prevent liquids and impurities from penetrating its structure while a natural leather balsam will not only make your product waterproof, it will also nourish it at the same time.

Cleaning | Remove any dirt or mud on the surface of the product with a damp light-colored cloth. Wait until dry. Apply a small amount of a cleaning product for smooth leather on a light-colored cloth and clean the surface of your product in small circular movements. Apply a leather conditioner for smooth leather or a leather balsam on a light-colored cloth or a soft foam sponge and rub it gently into the leather. Wipe away any excess or residue.

Storage | When not in use, always keep your leather product in its dustbag and store it in a well-ventilated place. The dustbag protects your product from dust and prevents color transfer during storage. It is recommended to stuff handbags and backpacks with the tissue paper in order to help preserve their original shape while stored. For extra protection, store your bag in a storage box to prevent damage to its shape.

COLOR TRANSFER

Contact with dark-colored clothing containing strong dyes such as dark jeans may cause the color transfer, in particular to the natural uncolored and light shades of vegetable-tanned leather. It is recommended that such contact is avoided as dark spots on vegetable-tanned leather caused by the color migration cannot be erased in any way. Please be warned that this kind of damage to the leather will not be accepted as a cause for complaint.

Contact of light-colored clothing with dark shades of vegetable-tanned leather may cause the color transfer to the clothing. Please be warned that the designer is not held responsible for this kind of damage to your light-colored clothing as this is a commonly known feature of dark-colored leather.

EFFECT OF CHEMICAL INFLUENCES

Exposure to rain and water will create spots. This can be prevented by applying a waterproofing product. Try a natural leather balsam with a high concentration of beeswax or a special high-tech waterproofing product such as Collonil Carbon Pro. Use a light-colored, soft foam sponge to apply the leather balsam to the leather surface. Clean the residue with a light-colored soft cloth to prevent color transfer to the leather. Repeat as needed. In the case of Collonil Carbon Pro, follow the procedure described on the product packaging. Should your bag or accessory get wet on a rainy day, gently wipe it dry and let it dry at room temperature; treat it with leather balsam when completely dry. Never place a wet leather product directly on/close to a direct source of heat!

Exposure to heat will cause the leather to slowly dry out and crack. All contact with a direct source of heat should be avoided as it would irreversibly change the look of the leather and therefore seriously damage the product. It is recommended to nourish your handcrafted product with a leather balsam from time to time in order to give back the natural moisture to the leather.

Exposure to air humidity which is too high may cause a mould formation with the corresponding odour. If the air humidity is too low, the leather may become harder and brittle over time.

Exposure to the sun or to a direct source of light will cause the leather to slightly change color over time. This is a natural process of aging typical for the vegetable-tanned leather, therefore, any chromatic variations in color should not be viewed as a leather defect. The chromatic change is especially visible on the natural uncolored shade of vegetable-tanned leather which will darken after a relatively short period of time.

ULTRASUEDE® HIGH-PERFORMANCE MICROFIBER

This exceptionally durable Japanese microfiber from the inventor of the world’s first ultra-microfiber combines the beauty and the soft, plush hand of the finest suede leather with the unmatched performance of responsibly engineered material. It is luxurious, modern and elegant. Its easy-care nature truly complements the DEVA DE SAAT products and without exaggeration, brings them to perfection.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Never pour a cleaning product directly onto the microfiber. Avoid wiping with colored cloths, as they may transfer dye.

Everyday / Periodical upkeep | A quick once-over with a lint brush will restore the sensuous nap and soft luster of the microfiber. It’s also a good idea to vacuum the interior of your bag from time to time.

Spot cleaning | Gently pat spills with a dry cloth or a paper towel until absorbed. For dried-in soiling, lightly brush or vacuum the stained area. If this doesn’t work, try gently wiping the stained area with a well-wrung white cloth dampened in lukewarm water.

Oil-based stains | Try to wipe up oily stains as much as possible – without spreading the stain – with a dry cloth or a paper towel. Gently pat at the stained area with a white cloth soaked in ethyl alcohol, and pat the loosened dirt and oil off with a dry cloth. Repeat if necessary.

Old or stubborn stains | Try the spot-cleaning treatments described above; even non-water-soluble stains often require subsequent treatment with water. If staining persists, try treating with ethyl alcohol.

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

Ultrasuede® may have a different appearance depending on viewing direction and/or angle. Any difference is due to the direction of the microfiber’s nap and not from actual color differences. Ultrasuede® is made of ultra-microfibers and therefore extremely soft. Repeated rubbing may cause excessive fuzzing or tears. Use utmost caution when placing Ultrasuede® in proximity to hot objects such as lit cigarettes or stoves as heat may damage its delicate touch or leave scorch marks.
